Temple Heelis’ Quiz Team performances in the current “ Season” are starting to draw comparisons with Manchester City’s recent record run of Premier League victories.
Although our Team has a little way to go to match Pep Guardiola’s team’s current run of 14 straight wins (our team has though won their last 3) we are wondering how long our run can go on, and are looking forward to the next one in the calendar.
A narrow win over the hosts MHA Moore and Smalley at their Charity Quiz night at the Villa near Kendal, has been followed by a near flawless performance in the Kendal Brewery Arts Centre Business Club Quiz, and rounded off by a classic team effort in the “LA23*NET” Christmas quiz at Windermere Works.
Squad rotation has not had any obvious adverse impact so far.
Ever-present and unofficial Team Manager Yasmin “Pep” Blamire has managed to ensure that each Team has had a good balance of areas of relevant “expertise” and also kept the peace when opinions occasionally diverged.
A fierce debate between Senior Partner Richard Moore, Managing Partner Jamie Hamilton and Head of Family Andrew Hill about what was the biggest Country in Africa (it turned out to be Algeria) was not allowed to undermine the Team’s spirit (even though the Team got that one wrong).
Moore has proved occasionally useful and has shown a previously untapped skill at unravelling anagrams.
Hamilton has displayed a remarkable instinct at identifying the outline borders of obscure Countries.
Telling contributions from Alex Gardiner and Lauren Bowness at the LA23*NET triumph shows that squad depth is growing and selection headaches await in 2018.
This will be made worse by the expected return of legendary quiz maestro and pop music specialist Peter Dodd, who has declared himself now match fit to return to the Team in 2018, to try and keep the run going.
The team are now lobbying for a new Trophy Cabinet for the boardroom, and one of the hardest questions that we now have to face is just how big that should be……………..
